Why won't They Listen

I got this email yesterday and thought I would share it. It came from a good friend of my Judy of www.rawfoodsnews.com fame
This is typical of many health conscious, with family, friend and others we care about. See if this rings true for you as well.

I'm visiting my parents and I feel like screaming.  They don't listen to anything I tell them about nutrition and food.  Tonight my mother pulled out a more than year-old half-used plastic bottle of Crisco Canola oil to use in an eggplant recipe.  I give up!  I might as well be invisible.  I feel so frustrated!  They don't believe a word I say about food.

My reply
The one thing people hate the most in life is some one telling them what to do or what not to do. "Its my life! Who the hell are you?" It is human nature to want to do what someone is telling us not to or prohibiting us from doing. Just like a kid rebelling against parents, adults are the same. Elderly people especially don't want to hear it and even more so not from their kids. After all, they raised you, what could you possibly tell them. They also have lived their whole life eating what they eat, preparing what they know and routine is now convenient. "Why at this old age do I have to learn something new". Simply live by example, talk to them about what has changed in your health and how exciting it is to have it happening but don't tell them why. When they want to know why they will ask; then they will be willing to listen.

World Traveld Model Discover Quintessence

Yesterday I had the great pleaser of meeting Narayan Fergal O'Connor in my Raw Vegan restaurant Quintessence. I asked him what he was doing the NYC and his reply was work related of course. As we talked of Asia and Europe I discovered we shared a great enthusiasm for culture, art, music and the people. It was agreed the Thailand (The Land Of Smiles) was high on the list for the nicest people. Narayan himself had a comforting calm about him and a clear focus to his energy; positive and genuine. It truly was a pleasure to meat and talk with him. What a great guy. His discovery of Quintessence really hit the spot for him. Clean pure and genuine, raw food and Quintessence are full of the good stuff and void if all the bad. He commended us on our atmosphere, food, mission and integrity. "Thanks Dude! Is that an endorsement?" Stunning energy, positive attitude and passion for life I trust we will  be seeing a lot of him soon!

Eight of the World's Most Unusual Plants

This is just one of the eight most unusual plants on Earth.
The Amorphophallus (which literally means "shapeless penis") has an enormous erect spadix, from which it gets its name.

Psychiatrist Thomas S. Szasz (1) has written extensively on the medicalization of American politics. Medicalization is defined as a process or tendency whereby the phenomena, which had belonged to another field such as education, law, religion, and so on, have been redefined as medical phenomena. (2) Thus, medicalization is a process by which the medical profession asserts authority over a sphere of life previously overseen by guardians of morality.

Szasz describes the ideologies of legitimization: theocracy (God’s will); democracy (consent of the governed); socialism (economic equality); and pharmacracy (the therapeutic state). The emergence of the therapeutic state is a product of the 20th century.

Can we eat raw food in the cold climate?

Came across this on emaxhealth.com

This is one of the most frequently asked questions about eating raw. People commonly believe that without a bowl of cooked food on a chilly winter day they would not be able to stay warm. I know many persons who quit the raw food lifestyle because they were afraid that they would become too cold during the winter.

Let us take a closer look at this situation. Would a quarter pound of rice physically keep a 160 lbs body warm? In order to get warmed by it, one would have to fill a bathtub with warm rice and sit in it for 20 minutes.

So why do we feel warmer after consuming cooked food?

Can Raw food really make a noticeable change

I got this great story today from a good friend and needed to share it.

After my 30 day meditation and fast in Panama, I was en route to Quito, Ecuador, for a short stay. I had a scene when immigration, had a problem with me not looking like my passport. I've lost so much weight. They had to summon a stern faced supervisor, who agreed there was problem here.  I was pulled to the side where I was surrounded by 3 more guards. I was getting nervous because I had not eaten and I was getting weak. There I was explaining to four officers who were in my face at this time, in my best Spanish. That I've just fasted for several weeks and what fasting was all about. The similarities with the Silver-back Gorilla, and other monkeys with our own DNA. How they only eat fruit. How we should follow suit. More guards gathered around as I'm thinking this sounds like bullshit and I'm gonna pass out before they throw me in some Panamanian prison and wind up on the FOX Network. But who would see, I would be behind walls and you would be watching a burning log. I shakily produced my NY license. Luckily I look more like this photo, and I'm wearing the same jacket! Although a fashion faux pas, it helped confirm who I was.
They finally waved me through, laughing, but not before they were sharing their ailments and weight issues. Asking for advise. One of them them trying to touch his toes as he explained he still had the flexibility of a young man. He stood back up with a little struggle as he fixed himself looking like a Panamanian Barney Fife. I  could of taken him...As I walked away their voices faded while two officers argued who could do more push-ups. I effin love traveling!

Hope your Holiday season is great.

Raw Testimonial

At the delicate and impressionable age of just 4yras old Kayoko Ogawara in Iwate Japan a small town 3 hours drive north of Tokyo develops acute Eczema. It started in the inner side of her elbow and knee joints. The dry skin itches so badly at times she would scratch till bleeding. As she got older and the Eczema continued; the scabs and stinging scratches were a welcome change from the relentless itching. This condition continued into her teens bringing with it the whole new and devastating pain of feel ugly, diseased and undesirable. At 18 pursing a passion for theater Kyoko moved the city of Tokyo. There her condition immediately accelerated covering her whole body. Exhausted days and sleepless nights were plagued with the continuous itch that eventually landed her in the hospital for and entire month. Just two week after that she went back into the hospital for a three week battle with shingles. “I hate my skin” she would scream standing naked in font of the bathroom mirror still scratching at her shoulder blades with her thumb nail. Covered in blackened bruises, patches of bleeding scabs and her entire body felt like sand paper she felt hideous. Public swimming pools and beaches where a nightmare which paled to the horror of what a lover might think once the close come off. Stunting a social life and distorting her self image the future of her sex life or hopes for a lover were slim to none. Over the course of 24 year of this 28 year old’s life, everything know to man was tired to cease the condition, Medical Creams, Skin Creams, Vitamins, Pharmaceuticals, and even Steroids at time her condition was unbearable. Nothing worked and in fact the condition continued to worsen. Now living in NYC I met Kayoko just 2 ½ months ago. We first went to my Raw Organic Vegan restaurant 2 months ago where she fell in love with the food. I began to explain to here the health benefits and some basics of the raw living life style. Without really thinking too much of what might change in her health she began to eat more raw foods because she genuinely liked it over her regular diet. She immediately felt a change in her health. So she went on an almost fully raw food regiment for 3 weeks. She eliminated all Dairy and allowed little starchy carbs. I also started her on 1 tbls Flax Seed Oil each morning along with 1/8tsp. Sea Salt dissolved in 8 oz water. The minerals and Omega Oils in conjunction with no processed foods did wonders for her.
Hi Joel
Now just 2 month on an 80% raw diet along with the oil and salt regiment her skin for the first time in 20 years looks and feels good. Almost all the black bruising is gone and the itch has subsided to a manageable level and no more scabs or scratches. I also changed her commercial skin cream to an all Organic  %100 natural Coconut Rose lotion with MSM. This applied twice a day nearly eliminate the remaining itch. Her skin is now so smooth & soft, even a slight glow is starting to appear. Other benefits she has enjoyed have ranged from more regular bathroom visits, elimination of sleepy darkened eyes, and needed weight gain to being clearer minded increasing brain function. By beach time next summer she will be prime to show off her new sexy glowing smooth skinned body and feeling sex and attractive for the first time sense she was old enough to know what that means.
